Looking for good Friday night ideas in LA that aren’t the usual touristy Hollywood or Downtown spots. What’s your current go-to for a Friday night in Los Angeles? Feel free to share your Friday night routines. xD
It depends on how broke I am that week. ![]()
Option A: Good tacos + nice beer somewhere in West LA and pretend I’m still in my 20s.
Option B: Stay home, order some cheap food, and watch people on Instagram act like they’re having the time of their lives (which they might have, compared to me) at the same three overpriced rooftop bars.
Both are valid LA Friday nights.
If you want something that still feels local, try the strip along Sunset in Silver Lake / Echo Park after 9 p.m. Not the super hyped places, the smaller bars and the late-night food spots. You’ll still run into people who actually live here instead of just people who came for the aesthetic, like me.
Bonus if it’s warm and you can sit outside. I travel there at least once a month to escape the busy weekends in West Hollywood.
I will stay at home and dive into some open-world games. I need that to relax my mind after a busy week. I will try to push myself for a bit more “action” on Saturday. Action means going on a walk and maybe meeting a friend for dinner.
That does indeed sound tempting. I might keep it low-key and chill.
I need to go to the store. I want to make some margaritas. Not sure my friend will come over. She is still working, which kinda sucks.
I might watch the Sunset over Santa Monica, grab friends, pick a neighborhood with street parking that doesn’t feel like a boss fight, eat until you’re uncomfortable, then find a bar where the music isn’t trying too hard.
That’s the whole formula. Everything else is marketing. ![]()
I mostly try to escape the Westside and try something different. My current Friday rotation is usually Koreatown or Highland Park. In K-Town, I’ll do late Korean BBQ then walk over to a karaoke place or one of the quieter soju bars. In Highland Park, it’s more like dinner at a spot on York, then a low-key bar that still has actual locals. Feels way less performative than Hollywood or Arts District these days.
Then on Saturday, the Abbey in West Hollywood. Sunday for recovering from the things I just mentioned. Hahaha
Just the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills (for dinner). Followed by a long, relaxing bath with some classical music. I need nothing more today. ![]()
Yup. Same here.
Lately I’ve been staying on the Eastside. Dinner somewhere in Eagle Rock or Highland Park, then a bar that still has a jukebox plus doesn’t charge insane amounts for a cocktail.
Feels more like actual Los Angeles than whatever’s happening on the Westside these days.
That sounds super chill, girl. Enjoy your night. ![]()
I am in NY right now, but I felt your post. ![]()
I usually text three friends, then argue for 45 minutes about where to go. Of course, time is running out, and we end up in the same places, but somehow still have a good time. Consistency is underrated.
I would be totally down for all that as well, but I have to study this weekend. ![]()
I feel you. ![]()
Just push through it. So glad I am done with that part of my life. I spent endless weekends doing just that.
Did you ever try Alfresco rooftop movies? It’s certainly something different. Almost like back in the days when you watched from your car. Just with skyline views and actual seating.
I never even heard of that name. Looks super fun. ![]()
Thanks for sharing.
Poor girl. Feel hugged. ![]()
