Carney’s has definitely earned its place in the after-show and midnight hall of fame of fast food. Two old Union Pacific rail cars sitting there like they got tired in 1975 and never left.
The Whisky, the Roxy, the Comedy Store, yes, there are still names on Sunset Blvd that survived, but a lot of that once-glorious Sunset vibe is gone. That’s why I support places like Carney’s. They feel familiar, they have charm, the food fills you up.. It’s just what you want and need sometimes. Not a fancy five-star restaurant, just a place with heart and some of your favorite late-night food.
If it’s your first time, I recommend the Train Wreck Fries, a double chili cheeseburger and a chili hot dog. You’ll meet the owner once in a while. He’s a super nice guy and always up for a chat.
Went to one of these new “elevated hot dog concept” in WeHo couple months ago. 24 dollars for a hotdog, bone marrow butter, a little flag on the plate and everyone filming the first bite.
Went to the Wurstküche afterwards and got what I wanted. Carney’s is lovely too. I keep switching between both places.
I live right behind the Sunset Tower, so this is literally across the street. That’s one of the reason I keep coming back, but not the only one. I just like their food and the vibe. One of the few places where I actually sit down instead of taking the food home.
I don’t hate the new spots. That’s the sad part. They’re doing exactly what this city rewards: pretty, scarce, gone in four years and remembered as “that place on Instagram or TikTok”.
Carney’s will never be scarce in that way. It’ll just be there until it isn’t & nobody will have gotten a sneak peek code. That said, I hope it stays!
The fun part about this place is that they have tap and bottle beer. Just have a beer and a chili dog. It’s the perfect combination.
This is a place that really brings you into the old history of Sunset Blvd and Hollywood. No matter if inside or outside (they got tables there as well).. you get the Sunset Blvd views.
