I’ve been living in Hollywood, Los Angeles for a while now, and I really enjoy the energy, nightlife, and being close to so many famous attractions. At the same time, I often hear people say that West Hollywood offers a better quality of life with great restaurants, walkable streets, and a different atmosphere.
If you’ve lived in or visited both neighborhoods, which one would you choose and why? What are the biggest differences in safety, parking, nightlife, and everyday living? I’d love to hear your experiences and opinions before deciding whether to stay in Hollywood or move to West Hollywood. I might be ready for a change.
West Hollywood is its own city, and it feels just cleaner and safer at night. I would avoid Santa Monica Blvd because of the crowds. I don’t think Hollywood is that bad either. I greatly dislike the Walk of Fame area. It’s just a tourist trap, but Runyon Canyon is fun.
I feel both places do have different vibes. I do prefer West Hollywood for walkability and safety. I think both places have awesome restaurants and nightlife.
I think most people do the Walk of Fame once and cross it off their bucket list. I remember I ended up on it again when I left the Avalon, but that was years ago. It’s really nothing special. L.A. has so much more to offer.
Hollywood has some quieter and greener areas too. It’s also a bit more affordable than WeHo. I would even go so far as to say it has the better clubs. West Hollywood beats it in terms of restaurants and bars.
Hollywood has way more energy and you’re right next to the big attractions, but it can feel more chaotic, more tourists, more street activity, and some stretches (especially near the Walk of Fame) that don’t feel great late at night. The upside is you’re closer to hiking spots like Runyon Canyon and there’s always something happening.
For everyday living, West Hollywood usually wins on safety, walkability, and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. Hollywood wins if you want constant action and don’t mind the crowds. It really depends on whether you value convenience and nightlife energy or a cleaner, more residential feel.
I would stay in Hollywood. West Hollywood seems a bit too snobby for my taste. People in Hollywood are more down-to-earth, less flashy. Hollywood is still more affordable and has everything you need. People are actually driving from West Hollywood to Hollywood to get some In-N-Out. Why would you want to move?
Haha, I get your point, but not everyone is the same here. My friends in WeHo live pretty normal lives, and so do I. It really depends on who you hang out with and where you go.
