Hugo Soto-Martinez, recently introduced a motion to remove some of the 41.18 districts established by his predecessor, Mitch O'Farrell. The zones include underpasses in Silver Lake, underpasses in Echo Park, and 101 Freeway overpasses in Hollywood.
How do you feel about that? I mean, we know exactly what will happen to those zones now. Give it a few days and they will fill up with tents.
Yeah, he is part of the progressive Nithya Raman alliance. They will turn Los Angeles into zombie land again. The problem is that these people never offer solutions. Do you remember how Venice Beach looked a couple of years ago?
If you want to drive tourists, businesses, locals, etc out of the area, then keep voting for these people.
I understand that we need solutions, but turning places like Echo Park into something like this again IS NOT the solution people deserve.
It's true that the policy doesn’t reliably keep encampments away from sensitive sites like schools, but it got better. A lot of these people got into housing projects back then. Many of them are in dire need of mental health programs. Going back to allowing the same encampments is the wrong move. Get them help and away from the streets.
Soto-Martinez has no common sense. He never did, he never will.
That's all I am saying about this, otherwiese I might lose my temper.
Some people seem to support those encampments until they show up on their streets. I assume that Soto-Martinez doesn't have to worry about it. Municipal Code 41.18 was designed to help parents keep their children away from encampments and to keep important pedestrian infrastructure clear.
Did that work perfectly? Nope, but it certainly improved some parts. I can't believe we are in that cycle again. We create rules that somewhat work, just to remove them a bit later. Then we reinstall something like that again because people start to complain.
We should find out where these people live and create some encampment zones for the homeless in front of their houses.
Let's put that on the November ballots.
I bet their kids don't have to walk through sidewalks filled with urine, poop, or needles. Yet we get tickets for wrong parking or accidentally dropping some garbage on the way to the dumpster. Not to mention all the fire hazards these camps create.
.. yep, we are in for some rough years.
