Despite an earlier city timeline that projected the devices would be installed and ready for testing by July, nothing has been installed yet. How do you guys feel about that?

I’m not a fan. It just feels like another cash grab that hits regular drivers the hardest while the city still can’t keep the roads fixed or the lights timed properly. I’d rather see more traffic enforcement officers out there dealing with actual reckless driving than a bunch of cameras quietly generating revenue.

Oh great, just what this city needs. Another 125 ways for the government to silently empty our wallets while the potholes remain Olympic-sized and the traffic lights stay broken.
Nothing says “we care about safety” like automating the process of fleecing drivers who are already late because the freeways are a parking lot.

Spot on.
I’m against it as well. Speed cameras don’t fix the real problem.. distracted driving, aggressive lane-weaving, or people running red lights. They just punish people for going a few miles over on empty stretches at 2 a.m. I’d rather the city focus on better road design and actual policing than installing more surveillance that treats every driver like a potential ATM.
They would make sense in school zones, but I guess we see a lot of them on interstates.

Honestly, I am all for it. Too many people treat LA streets like their personal racetrack, and the number of crashes and near-misses is ridiculous. If automated cameras actually get people to slow down, especially in school zones and high-crash corridors, I am fine with it. Tickets aren’t the goal, safer roads are.
Right, they need to place them where they matter.
I am all in for more license plate readers to prevent actual crime. Speeding cameras are something I don’t support, especially not on highways.
Automated speed cameras feel like the city’s way of saying, “We can’t be bothered to fix the actual problems, so here’s a high-tech ATM that only works when you’re late for work.” Meanwhile, the same streets still have faded lane markings, broken signals, and people doing 90 in the fast lane with their phone glued to their face.
If the goal was safety, they’d start with better road design and real enforcement. Instead we get 100+ silent revenue collectors that somehow never catch the guys weaving through traffic like it’s Grand Theft Auto. Classic LA solution: ignore the root cause, install cameras, and call it progress.
I am not in favor of this at all. Just sucks.

Like they are trying to control every aspect of our lives. Should have invested that money in some security cameras in high-crime areas. Too many innocent people are getting attacked. The problem is that it wouldn't generate any money.
