Sixth Street PARC — the best example of why we can’t have nice things in Los Angeles

Sixth Street PARC (short for Sixth Street Park, Arts, River & Connectivity) is the best example of why we can’t have nice things in L.A.

It’s not even open yet, and it’s already covered in graffiti. I wonder how long it will take before kids playing in the park are replaced by homeless encampments and drug addicts.

The bridge above it already looks like a $600 million tagging gallery with the lights stolen out of it.

Nobody should be shocked the park underneath is getting hit before ribbon-cutting. Security cams might help a bit, but it needs more than that.

City of Los Angeles: we will spend $80 million on the park and $0 on the part where people don’t wreck it the second the contractors leave. That’s a classic.

I feel sorry for everyone who had high hopes for this.

Way more and who is actually checking these cameras? The 6th Street Viaduct has been a magnet for lawlessness thugs since it opened.

I doubt it will be different for the park below.

The news lady is still reading the brochure like this is going to be Disneyland under a freeway. Give it three months after opening. The splash pad will be a sink and the soccer field will have a tent line.

Meanwhile the construction fence is already a canvas. Yeah, what I meant to say is.. we can’t have nice things without proper protection and security.

The city already knows how this ends. They just can’t say it out loud because then they’d have to do something besides a press conference and a 41.18 petition they won’t enforce.

They’ll clean it for the grand opening, invite the council members, post drone footage, then forget it exists until the next election nears.

They built a $590 million bridge, let people do street takeovers, strip the wiring and paint the arches, then dropped an $80 million park under it like that wasn’t a preview.

Sounds dark, right? Yet we all know it will turn into a disaster.

Well, this isn’t somewhere in West Hollywood or Westwood. You need to enforce the rules, or law-abiding people will be forced out.

Everyone knows that. This might very well turn into an open-air drug market just like MacArthur Park. There have been cleanup efforts, more police presence, and attempts to bring families back to the park. It’s just hard once a place turns into a ghetto.

The city’s current commitment is to have the 6th Bridge lighting work completed before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics. :joy:

They need to find ways to protect the electrical equipment against theft. Unbelievable. :eyes:

Well, completion is scheduled for December 2026. Let’s stay positive and see how it goes. :see_no_evil_monkey:
