I am planning a vacation to Los Angeles and would like to know the best month to visit. Is there any time of the year I should avoid?

Times I’d skip if you can: July-August if you hate crowds and peak prices, plus the week of Thanksgiving and the Christmas–New Year stretch. There is a thing called June Gloom, but I think June is still a nice month.

I never heard of it. 
I'd probably avoid August/September because of the weather. Halloween is also insane if you want to avoid crowds. Winter works if you’re here for food, museums.. and walking neighborhoods. Rain is possible but usually comes in short bursts, not weeks of gray.

Official vacation time is too expensive anyway. I was thinking about May or October. Flights are way cheaper around that time.

I honestly feel that September and October are my favorite months in LA. Still warm, usually less gloomy than early summer and the crowds aren’t quite as crazy. October especially can be gorgeous.

I think October is the best month of the year. You will get plenty of sun, and there are barely any crowds left. Since you mentioned May, that's also one of my favorites. Mornings can be a bit gloomy, but the afternoons are gorgeous.

I wouldn’t automatically rule out winter. January and February can have some absolutely beautiful sunny days in the 60s/70s. You might get rain, but I’d take that gamble over fighting summer crowds.
Just think about it.. winter in other places is in the 30s, 20s or even worse. That’s were the real advantage of Los Angeles comes into play.

Right, that's a good time to explore the city. As a tourist, I would prefer Florida in winter, at least if I want to enjoy the beaches. In fact, water temperatures in L.A. never compare with Florida. Keep that in mind.

Welcome Tamara. I hope you enjoy your trip no matter when. L.A. is worth a visit no matter of the time. That said, I’d avoid late July and August if you’re planning to do a lot of tourist stuff. It’s hot, crowded, and hotels tend to be more expensive.
March or April gets my vote. The weather is usually really comfortable for walking around and you can actually spend the whole day outside without melting lol. Evenings can still get surprisingly chilly though.

I like March/April/May/June and October/November because of the weather and crowds. The nights can still be a bit cold, I agree, but daytime temperatures are what I care most about.
Holiday season is always a tough one, that’s common sense.
