No neighborhood in a major metropolis like Los Angeles is entirely free of all crime or historical gang presence, but what are areas with virtually no active traditional street gangs?

This one is pretty accurate. Neighborhoods like West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Palos Verdes, or Beverlywood, Westwood, for example, don’t have real street gangs. Santa Monica has some activity below the I-10.

Neighborhoods like Palms and Santa Monica are pretty safe. They have some gang graffiti, but there hasn’t been much going on for 10 years or so.
The last two major incidents in Palms happened in 2015 when they shot that innocent guy, “Christopher John Paul”. No one knew who it was, but that shooting happened one week after they killed a known gang member called Justin Aguilar. They caught the guys who did it, and people in Palms were really upset about the shootings. It’s a very safe neighborhood now where I’ve lived for many years.

Even if there is some activity, it’s usually very low-key compared to places like Downtown. Gangs aren’t tolerated in those areas. There is just too much money.
Marina Del Rey & Playa Del Rey don’t seem to have gang activity as well.

I almost bought a place in Playa del Rey once. The area isn’t bad. It’s pretty safe, but that constant airplane noise is annoying.
That’s absolutely right.
I lived in Palms for a very long time. I still remember 2015 as well. We even had a surveillance car parked near the basketball court for some time.
Palms is a great neighborhood nowadays.

You can clearly tell where the money is. 
The police are actively protecting those areas. Others are pretty much left alone or given up on.

I don't see any gang activity here in West Hollywood. There are programs like "Safer WeH" that make it harder to commit certain crimes. They installed 50 fixed real-time cameras, strategically placed throughout West Hollywood. They also got some real-time watch centers, drones, etc, not to mention all the license plate readers.

I'd rather have some security cameras across L.A. than more speeding cams.

I don't see any gangs in Santa Monica. Seems pretty safe to me for the most part. They must operate under the radar.

Santa Monica is pretty safe, even at night. Same accounts for Marina Del Rey. Venice seems a bit sketchy after sunset.
