One woman was left dead. What’s your opinion? Should drivers 80+ get tested more frequently?

Cognition can disappear over night at that age. I hope full self driving advances to a point where people like her can use it without issues. FSD should be mandated for anyone above 80 at that point. Statistics don’t lie.

91 is certainly an age at where drivers should be tested more frequently. FSD is a good thing, not only for people above 80 and yes, statistics already show that FSD leads to less accidents compared to humans driving.

An eyewitness said the lady told him that she tried to stop the Tesla, it was accelerating and she couldn't stop it. That her foot was on the brake, but it kept going.
Not sure if she confused gas/brakes or if there was another issue.

Shouldn’t a Tesla know when to brake? I think if we got features like FSD.. then this should be an easy fix?

I know that you can deactivate a lot of stuff on a Tesla. I think some things should just stay on regardless. This accident could have been avoided.

I think there comes a point / age where everyone should reconsider driving.
I don’t think we have to worry about that in a couple of years. FSD will become the new standard. I’m not sure if Tesla can fully archive the same safety standards as Waymo without LiDAR.
Not sure why Elon is trying to avoid LiDAR. It became super cheap compared to a decade ago.

LiDAR could have prevented a lot of accidents, not only this one. It’s better than a human eye.
That’s why Tesla’s Cybercap is so far behind Waymo.

I feel totally safe in a Waymo. I can’t say the same about Tesla and FSD. I tried it before, it’s not the same. I hope other brands will adapt LiDAR. That’s when FSD (like with Waymo) becomes a real game changer.

Chances are that she confused gas and brakes. Not gonna say that this shouldn’t be investigated, it will be, but it’s very likely that it was a human error.
To answer your question, yes, they should be tested more frequently. FSD should be made mandatory on top of that.

It’s wrong on so many levels. Just watched this during my lunchtime. I don’t think she should have been driving at that age.

Absolutely horrific. I hope she doesn’t have kids who depend on her. This should remind as how fast things can change. R.I.P.

Most likely and it goes like this.. The driver intends to brake & hits the gas on accident. The car, of course, accelerates like crazy (especially a Tesla), the lady panics, believing that there is an issue and tries to to break even harder. At that point it’s most likely too late.
