I’m looking for an actual dinner place on the Eastside. I grew up on the Westside and recently moved to Silver Lake. Please focus on the following areas: Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Atwater Village, Highland Park, and East Los Angeles.
There’s a Japanese restaurant in Highland Park. It’s called Tane Vegan Izakaya. It’s my favorite whenever I want vegan sushi. Plenty of gluten free options also.
I swear each dish is delicious and flavorful. Hand-crafted vegan sushi has never tasted better. They have a lot of starters and salads. Service is amazing.
A colleague took me to Green Leaves Vegan on Hillhurst Avenue once. It was really good. They have a lot of options, from burgers to Thai food. Everything is plant-based. I didn’t realize vegan food could taste that delicious until I went there.
If you’re into Chinese food, try Men & Beasts. Doesn’t sound very Chinese, I know, but it’s awesome and right next to Silver Lake. Eating there is more than just dinner, it’s an experience.
You can tell a lot of care has gone into every dish. Everything is fresh and really hits your taste buds. I’ve been there many times since they opened. It never disappoints.
Izakaya is amazing. I don’t believe you can find any better vegan sushi in Los Angeles.
For vegan Thai food I would try Salaya Plant-Based Kitchen in Loz Feliz. It’s kinda Asian fusion style. The inside doesn’t look that fancy, but don’t let that fool you. Their portions are huge and is by far one of the best plant based spots I've been to.
Welcome to the Eastside. In case you can make it a bit further east than the places you mentioned, check out La Cave. It’s a fully plant-based French-inspired wine bar with small plates in Old Pasadena.
Maybe not the full dinner experience, but the sandwiches, cheeses and pastries are incredible.
Bulan Thai on Santa Monica Blvd was easily the best vegan restaurant I tried so far and I tried quite a few. Try their crispy fish with green apple or orange chicken (yes, everything is vegetarian).
There are a couple well known ones that got already mentioned. I would add Hot Tongue Pizza to that list.
But there are also places that don’t get the same hype, but are at least on the same level. BeeWali’s Vegan AF on Eagle Rock Blvd is one of them. Filipino-inspired comfort food. It’s so good, that it plays in its own league. I mean you barely see lamb or kabob on vegan menus. Especially not that tasty.
