Brunch without a two hour wait, does that still exist on the Westside?

We tried to do a simple Sunday brunch last weekend and gave up entirely. Great White quoted us an hour and forty, and every other place we walked to had the same clipboard energy, so the four of us ended up eating at my place instead.

I would like to plan this Sunday properly. Where on the Westside can four people actually sit down before noon without a reservation made in a previous life?

Flake on Rose before ten and you just walk in. Cheap, easy, and you are right by the beach after.

After my Sunday class I drive out to Bacari in Playa del Rey and it has never once failed me. The patio takes my chihuahua, the food comes out quickly before the beach crowd arrives, and the wine list is better than it needs to be for brunch.

Go at eleven, not at one. Everything on the Westside falls apart after noon and no plate of eggs is worth standing in the sun for.

Okay this is a drive for me from downtown but Paisita on Abbot Kinney, 2805, is sooo good!! Colombian breakfast, the eggs with arepas, and I have never waited more than ten minutes because everyone else is queued up two blocks over.

Small place, real coffee, and the bill does not make you flinch. Worth the drive both ways honestly.

Coming from Inglewood I am not waiting an hour for eggs, ever. Bru's Wiffle on Wilshire in Santa Monica gets me in and out, food is solid, nobody is posing for anything. It is a waffle place and not an experience, which is the whole point. Show up before eleven and it is just a normal restaurant.

Maxine's Cafe on Washington. Ten minute wait, real food, no scene.

Blue Daisy on Broadway in Santa Monica takes a Resy the night before, which almost nobody bothers to do for brunch. Book eleven fifteen on Sunday and walk straight past the line.

There is another spot I like. It’s called Redbird. Probably a bit far for you, but worth checking out. That one is on 2nd St (downtown).

I love the design of that place. It has a cathedral with a glass-ceiling courtyard. You can get amazing food there, things like duck confit chilaquiles, blueberry ricotta pancakes, biscuits and gravy, lobster congee.

Perfect for a brunch and you don’t have to wait hours.

The Home Restaurant (Los Feliz) is nice. A friend lives close by so I am going more often than I should. The restaurant has a leafy patio with nice trees. You can get breakfast all day: pancakes, chilaquiles, breakfast burritos, classic American breakfast. The vibe is relaxed/comfy and it’s good for groups.

Don’t come too late so you get the best seats.
