Around 4000 bucks for a modern 2-bedroom, 2-bath with a balcony. Area: West Hollywood.
I thought about buying, but property taxes, HOA, energy... and you are paying 2k anyway.

$1950 for a one-bedroom in Koreatown. A friend has a studio some blocks away and he pays $1400. A studio would have kinda worked for me as well, but I love having a gaming room.

That's the average monthly salary for most Americans. People get paid more in L.A., but still. One of the reasons I stopped looking in areas like West Hollywood. I say that without being jealous. I wouldn't buy anything either.

1200 for a room in Hollywood. My brother rents the other room and pays 1400, as it's bigger. Otherwise, it would be 2600 for the entire unit. That is still not too bad.
My sister moved out in 2025. She was renting one of the rooms. I thought about downgrading to a 1-bedroom, but I love the place. My landlord told me the HOA forbids renting it out via Airbnb. So I am kinda stuck with the option of renting it out long-term.

The people next door are paying more than that. I got an old contract.

That is exactly why private landlords aren't making much money in L.A..
Just do the math. You are left with 2k a month for a place you paid 1 million dollars for. So you would have to wait 40 years to get that money back. Buuuut, of course, some taxes and repairs come on top of that.
If you want to make money with a property, buy a house in Florida and Airbnb it. You might have your money back in 10 years or less.

I am paying $1400 for a rather small studio in Venice. I don't need a bigger place right now or in the near future. Single life is great.
Just about 1,2 k.. I share the apartment with two other girls. I wouldn't want to pay twice that much just so I have my own.
It works out well between us.
