Is In-N-Out overrated in Los Angeles or is the hype deseverd?

I know this might be controversial, but I’ve been wondering this for a while.

Everyone talks about In-N-Out like it’s the must-have in LA, especially if you’re new here. And yeah, it’s great, tasty & decent prices.

But at the same time… I’m not sure if it lives up to the hype.

There are so many other burger spots in LA now that serve great burgers as well. Sometimes it feels like people hype In-N-Out more because it’s “iconic” than because it’s actually the best.

Curious what others think. Is In-N-Out actually one of the best burgers in LA, or just overhyped at this point?

And if you think it’s overrated, what places are better?

I get what you’re saying, but I honestly don’t think it’s overrated.

It’s not trying to be some gourmet burger place, that’s kind of the whole point. It’s simple, fresh, and consistent every single time. You always know exactly what you’re getting.

Also for the price, I don’t think anything really beats it in LA. You can get a solid meal without spending like $20+ which is rare here. On top of that, I wouldn’t even trade these gourmet burgers against my weekly In-N-Out burger. I just love the taste.

Plus… late night In-N-Out just hits different. 😄 They are the best fast-food chain for me. Nothing comes even close. I might be brain-washed, I don’t know?

The only thing I hate about In-N-Out is the long lines.

Of course - I do like other places like Carney's or Original Tommy's as well.

All three are pretty much L.A. legends. The hype is real.

In-N-Out deserves every bit of the hype. You can argue about regional bias all you want, but it’s just ahead of places like Five Guys. The menu is simple, sure, but that’s exactly why it works. They focus on doing a few things really well instead of chasing trends. The burgers are fresh, never frozen. You can taste it immediately. The lettuce is crisp, the tomatoes aren’t sad and watery, and the patties actually have flavor. And don’t even get me started on how customizable everything is once you learn the “secret menu.” Animal Style isn’t just a gimmick, it’s legitimately great.

Prices are another big win. In a world where fast food is creeping toward sit-down restaurant prices, In-N-Out still feels fair. You can get a solid meal without feeling like you got ripped off.

Are the fries controversial? For some. But even that comes down to preference, they’re fresh-cut on the spot, and if you order them well-done or Animal Style, they become something special as well.

If you know, you know…

I don’t care that some people think it’s overrated. First place I go whenever I land at LAX.

I never met someone who came over for the first time and didn’t like it or at least thought it’s decent.

Even Anthony Bourdain loved it. Gosh I miss that guy.

In-N-Out haters be like “it’s overrated” while I’m over here ordering like I have generational wealth in Animal Style. 🔥🍔

Listen… is it a 47-page menu with truffle foam and edible gold? No.
Is it a perfectly grilled burger, fresh-cut fries, and a milkshake that fixes my entire personality? Absolutely.

The vibes? Immaculate.
The prices? Still in this economy?? Respect.
The consistency? Never misses.

Y’all can keep your “gourmet” burgers that require a reservation and a small loan. I will be in the drive-thru, living my best life and unapologetically loyal.

Stay mad. I’ll stay double-double’d.. 😌
