Koreatown (K-Town) seems to come up a lot when people talk about living in LA, especially if you want something central and a bit more affordable compared to the Westside.
From what I have seen over the years, K-Town has a pretty unique mix. Dense, walkable (by LA standards), tons of food options, and actually a decent amount of nightlife without needing to drive far.
A few things that stand out for me. The location is super central with easy access to DTLA, Hollywood, and Mid-City. It has some of the best Korean BBQ and late-night spots in LA. The walkability is very good, one of the few areas in L.A. where you can get by without driving everywhere. The nightlife is stunning, with lots of bars, karaoke, and places open late.
One of the most important factors is that Koreatown is still more affordable than many Westside neighborhoods. Gentrification is a problem; nevertheless, people here are still down-to-earth. Young professionals and tourists seem to like K-Town.

I am not gonna lie.. it can be quite loud until 2 am sometimes. When it comes to safety, I don’t feel unsafe here. It’s not as posh as West Hollywood, for example, or there aren’t as many security cameras on every street corner, but I never had any issues or got robbed. You just have to be aware of your surroundings. There is some gang activity. The LAPD and FBI are more frequently conducting raids nowadays. I honestly feel it’s getting better. There are certainly worse neighborhoods surrounding K-Town.
West Hollywood has pretty much no active gang activity. I visited Koreatown a lot. I love it, but I don’t feel as safe at night as a woman as I do in WeHo or Santa Monica. I don’t have the same feeling during the day. I want to mention that it feels safer than Downtown at night.
