What credit score to rent an apartment in Los Angeles?

What is your experience when it comes to an acceptable credit score for renting an apartment in Los Angeles?

I think everything above 700 is good. Everything below 650, and you will have trouble. Private landlords might have different rules, but this is what I learned over the years.

650 is okay for some.

700 is okay for most.

750 and no questions asked.

800+ and you are the queen/king.

Let’s face it. Most landlords want to make money, and most of us will never hit 800+.

I think 680+ with on-time payments is the sweet spot.

Some might ask for a statement from the previous landlord.

I heard some landlords are willing to rent out if you offer some extra cash. It’s kinda messed up, but I guess that’s just how things work sometimes.

I got a place with a credit score of 650.

Also got rejected before when it was at 680. Sometimes you have to get lucky or prove enough funds. A statement from your prior landlord will help.
