With all the investigations and questions surrounding how Los Angeles has spent billions on homelessness, I keep wondering what did Mayor Karen Bass and Councilmember Nithya Raman actually know and when did they know it? What are they going to do about it? I mean this money was supposed to help people in need and I don’t see enough outcry.

I think people should feel ashamed about this. Hundreds of millions were funneled into private luxury events. It doesn't even matter if you are pro Bass or pro Raman, or if you are a Democrat or a Republican. How many people could have gotten off the streets with that money? How many lives could have been saved?

The worst part is that US Attorney Bill Essayli says that the Trump administration is cutting off federal funding to homeless fraud after Los Angeles homelessness surged, despite more money being thrown at NGOs.
This might have a horrific impact.

Both need to answer questions. Raman definitely can’t say she had nothing to do with oversight. She chaired the Housing and Homelessness Committee and even pushed for tracking homelessness spending and performance metrics. The fair question is whether those systems were strong enough and whether warning signs were acted on fast enough. I remember that the L.A. Times reported that Raman established monitoring of city homelessness spending and helped create a Bureau of Homelessness Oversight.
Bass served on the LAHSA commission. She needs to answer as well. I don't even care about who was more involved. I want answers.

Keep politics out of it and give us answers. Bass and Raman had some oversight. Why wasn't anything discovered?

What makes this worth digging into is that both sides are now blaming each other. Raman says City Hall hasn’t had enough oversight, while Bass and other council members have criticized Raman’s record in running the homelessness committee.

Instead of campaign talking points, release the emails, audits, contracts and meeting records. Let people see who knew what and when. Bass and Raman have publicly disputed responsibility for the city’s response to homelessness. Now show us proof of where it went wrong.

I understand that Republicans want answers, but cutting all federal funding is indeed horrific. There must be programs with a strong, legitimate track record.

Right, that's why I say the impact will be devastating. Don't get me wrong. I want answers too. I want people to be held responsible. I don't care at all about party affiliation.

What stands out to me is that both of them had oversight roles, just in different places. It's probably not just them. A lot more people are involved. How can hundreds of millions disappear without anyone noticing? Come on..

Politicians really think we are stupid. If I were in charge of something like, let's say, a normal company, I would get fired for not noticing.

Not only that, but they would put us in jail for decades. Everything we did would surface, as we don't have the power and tools.
I heard that guy bought a nightclub and so on. Sell all "his" assets and allocate them to our homeless population.

I can already see the impact on our streets. 8% more homeless without a roof in just one year. Now they even cut funding. Guess how the ones on the streets feel about it?
