Been here long enough to say it. What is the most overrated thing about LA that everyone acts like they love but secretly doesn't? I'll start, the beach. Nobody actually goes as much as they pretend, parking is a nightmare, and the water is cold half the year. Great to have nearby, wildly oversold as a daily thing. What's yours.

The Sunset Strip for me. It gets talked about like it's still the center of nightlife but half of it is tourists paying twenty bucks for a drink to stand in a room that was cooler fifteen years ago. Downtown and the Eastside have way better spots now for a fraction of the attitude. The Strip coasts on a reputation it stopped earning.

I actually do go there a much as I pretend. Yeah, more often than not, I don’t take a swim, but I don’t pretend. For parking, just use the parking structures, it’s still better than in WeHo.

Honestly the whole hustle culture thing. Everyone here has a side project and a screenplay and a startup, and there's this pressure to always be grinding toward something.
Some of my happiest days here have been the ones where I did absolutely nothing productive. I love this city but the constant reinvention energy can be exhausting if you let it get to you.

Rooftop bars. Overpriced, overcrowded, and you spend the whole night fighting for a spot by the railing to see a view you could get for free from a hike. Give me a cheap taco spot and a normal patio any day.

The one I always come back to is the idea that you need a car for absolutely everything. It's true in a lot of the city, but it's become this identity thing where people refuse to even try walking a few blocks.
I've lived in Santa Monica for years and I genuinely run most of my errands on foot. Certain pockets of LA are perfectly walkable if you actually live in the right spot.
The car dependency is real, but a lot of it is habit and choosing to live somewhere that requires it, then complaining about the traffic you're part of.

Gonna say it, the celebrity thing. When you first move here you think you'll be starstruck constantly, and then you realize seeing someone semi-famous at the grocery store is just a normal Tuesday and nobody cares. The novelty wears off so fast. Fun for visitors, totally whatever once you live here.

Brother, I almost gave up during the last weeks. Finally came up with the idea of a mobile AC. That was a lifesaver.

… and every other show on the read carpet. I never got the hype. I’m definitely not staying up late to watch celebrities thank their agents for three hours. There are way more interesting things happening.
