What’s an L.A. rule nobody writes down but everybody learns the hard way?

Not traffic laws. The unofficial stuff you learned over the years.

If you find parking on the first pass, keep walking. Either the hydrant is hiding or the street sweeper is coming for you at dawn.

Right, the first weekend you use a street without checking street-cleaning signs is the weekend you donate your car to the city. :joy:

Don’t trust “the water’s fine.” In L.A. that usually means the air is 72. The Pacific is still running a personal vendetta at 60 degrees. I can count the spring / fall days I am actually in the water on two hands (maybe even one :eyes:).

One thing I learned the hard way is to bring more water than my pride wants, even so I might look ridiculous. L.A. hiking has two climates. One is the cute morning climate before 10 am, the other climate hits around 11:30 am. That’s when you want to stay in the shade.

That’s right, and never follow the person in all-white sneakers and a ring light.

The laundry room has rules. If you leave wet clothes in the machine, you will make an enemy. If you move someone else’s clothes, you will make a worse one. Set a timer or watch your laundry app (yeah right, we got apps for everything now).

Never tell your girlfriend you’re leaving work early. In L.A. someone will immediately need you and traffic will personally intervene. You’ll still be at work when your girl calls you and asks if you got the food & are close.

OMG this is so true. :joy:

A hidden gem is only a hidden until you share it with others and the first influencer finds out.

You need to fake it, until you make it. That’s how it works in L.A., don’t try to be modest.

Correct. Learn the nod at the door. If you look like you’ve been here before, you have been here before. If you look like you’re checking the guest list, you weren’t invited.

A yellow light is not a warning. It’s a dare. If you can legally stop, someone behind you has already decided you won’t.

And the one behind him as well.

To always bring at least a pullover during colder months. You might get 70+ degrees during the day, but nights can get chilly.

Right, unless it’s July, August, September. :raising_hands:t2:
