I love a night out but I am so over the bottle service clubs where everyone just stands around their table on their phone. I want a floor where people actually dance and the music is the point, not the table minimum.
Salsa, house, disco, whatever, as long as it moves. Where are you all going for a real dance night these days?
La Descarga in Hollywood is exactly what you're describing, Cuban speakeasy, live band, a floor full of people who came to dance, not pose. Small but the energy is right.
If you want a proper salsa night, The Granada over in East Hollywood runs real Latin nights with a big floor. Si, amigo, that's the move.
Florentine in DTLA!! Not fancy at all, just a real dance floor and good crowd, I always end up sweaty and happy there. La Cita on Hill does Cumbia Thursdays too, tiny and packed and so fun, zero bottle-table energy.
Avalon in Hollywood if you want to actually dance til late, the house and techno nights go off and nobody's doing the standing-around thing. Lots of LGBT crowd, they know how to party lol. That's my sweaty-good-night spot.
Yes to all of this. For house and disco I love the warehouse-y nights out east, but an easy one is Sound in Hollywood when the lineup's good.
The Victorian in Santa Monica does a salsa night that's such a vibe if you want something a little different and less club.
If you're open to reggaeton and Latin nights, the crowd at The Granada gets it right, people there to move. Skip the Hollywood table clubs entirely, you already know they're not it.
I have had way better luck in DTLA than West Hollywood for this. Find a warehouse/house/techno event and you will see it’s a different vibe/crowd.
Underground events. Hard to find sometimes and not always publicly advertised. There are certain groups on Telegram for example.
This makes me happy to read, feels like nobody dances anymore! Back in the day it was all floor. Sound and Avalon are still your best bets for a real dance night. La Descarga if you want something more intimate.
