Sat in traffic on the 405 for 45 minutes… only to realize the “accident” was just two people arguing in the middle lane with their hazard lights on. No cars were damaged. Just pure emotional damage for the rest of us.

When I first moved to West Hollywood, I ordered a “simple” iced coffee. The bill came out to $12. No protein powder, no collagen, no mushroom extract. Just coffee and ice. The barista still asked if I wanted a drop of oat milk for an extra $2.

Started to make my own coffee from there on.

Rent went up $400. Landlord's justification: "The neighborhood has really improved." The only thing that changed was a new matcha stand and two more guys skateboarding at 2 a.m..

Last week I ordered a grilled cheese plus coffee in Venice. It was nice outside, so I went to the patio. A homeless man in his 40s decided it was time for a toilet break. He didn’t go for “Number 1”, but “Number 2”. My appetite was obviously gone. The young couple at the next table didn’t look so happy either. They spoke French and were probably on holiday. Crazy times.

Oh, the L.A. classic. :grimacing:  There are areas like Skid Row where this is very common. No matter if public toilets are around.

Uhh, that’s truly disturbing.

My last “are you serious moment” happened a couple of days ago. I saw Tesla with a “Save the Planet” sticker… idling for 30 minutes outside a juice bar in West Hollywood, with the AC blasting while the owner filmed a TikTok (probably about sustainability).

My first wtf moment in L.A. was watching locals bundle up in heavy winter parkas, beanies, and scarves the exact moment the temperature dipped below 68°F. I was still wearing T-shirts at that time.

I felt the same when I visited my friends place in Westwood for the first time during a heatwave in 2012 & found out a lot of people don’t have an AC in Los Angeles. He told me back then California law required landlords to provide heaters but does not mandate cooling systems.

Saw a half-naked guy dancing on a car roof in the middle of the road (Downtown) before the LAPD arrested him. :joy:

Hahahaha another L.A. classic, Genesis. I saw something like that in Hollywood. The guy wasn’t half naked though.

I love just sitting on my balcony. There is always something happening in Sawtelle. A couple of days ago, I watched a film crew block off an entire residential street for 2-3 hours to film a 30-second commercial for a mattress company… at 4 p.m. on a Wednesday. They didn’t seem bothered at all and kept everything super chill.

My first “are you serious right now” moment was when I saw all the cars in front of In-N-Out. Now I know In-N-Out is famous for cars that line up for blocks past residential homes and intersections.

To all the shocked tourists → The indoor counter can be faster on the weekends. So instead of trying to find the last waiting car to line up, park somewhere and walk in.

That is what I do most of the time whenever I am in the Hollywood area. Once I thought going very late at night would be a good idea on a weekend.

Let's say I was wrong. That was the worst crowded In-N-Out I ever experienced.

The first wtf experience comes once you get out of LAX (if that wasn't already an experience) and then try to grab some food at In-N-Out on Sepuveda. :joy:

My first wtf moment in Los Angeles was when I walked the Walk of Fame. My brother told me to see other things instead; I didn't listen. So I wasted 2 hours of my life watching some stars while being harassed by scammers & wannabe artists.

I could have done nice things like the Venice Canals or Runyon Canyon. Now I warn first-time visitors too. It's not worth it, especially not if you want to impress your gf. Go on hikes, see beaches, get good food, visit rooftop bars...

I tell everyone who visits L.A. for the first time the same. Don't do the Walk of Fame. Do some of the nice things instead.

Wow, 400 dollars is brutal. :scream:

Maybe if you have two weeks and get bored, but not even then.

It just feels like the biggest tourist trap ever. Then again, some tourists go absolutely wild when they find the star of their favorite celebrity. I remember someone replied to a story of a woman pooping on the street.. "Living here for 20 years, that has happened to me so many times it’s not even a notable story anymore." :see_no_evil_monkey:

You would think the city would try to keep its tourist attractions clean.
